Description: |
Accommodating differential movement is a key principle in the design of glazing system and their interface with adjacent enclosure systems. While seismic inter-story drift is often the governing factor here in the Pacific Northwest, consideration must also be given to wind loading, thermal expansion and dead-load deflection. The successful designs must accommodate the differential movement without permanent deflection or damage of the glazing system while at the same time maintaining a weathertight enclosure. This webinar will review:
• Factors determining differential movement
• Performance testing for differential movement
• Approach to differential movement in full height glazing systems
• Approach to differential movement at interfaces between systems
Stéphane Hoffman is a Senior Building Science Specialist with the Seattle office of Morrison Hershfield. Stéphane specializes in the design of building envelope systems with respect to water penetration, air leakage, vapor diffusion, thermal efficiency and differential movement. His background includes a mix of structural engineering, building science and architecture. Stéphane holds a Masters of Engineering from McGill University and a Master of Architecture from the University of Montreal. He is a licensed professional engineer in the province of British Columbia.
David Vadocz, P.Eng. is co-owner Berkeley Vadocz Engineering Inc. David earned his Bachelor of Engineering from Lakehead University and is a registered Professional Engineer in BC, Alberta and the Yukon. David’s experience ranges from: glazing, steel structural components and designing buildings throughout the British Columbia, Alberta, Yukon and Ontario areas |
